Welcome to Diamonds Castle House
Castle House is in the third generation of the Diamond family. Built originally in the late 19th century by my grandfather, W.J. Diamond, incorporating part of an earlier structure, the house has served both as a family home and for a period in the 1920s as a guest house.
Recently renovated throughout, it still retains its old world charm and character.
The Lounge is a long comfortable room that serves both for evening recreation and relaxation and as the Breakfast Room. It is a sturdy structure - the walls are almost a metre thick - and was the original retail area of the General Store that once occupied the entire ground floor. Much of the original character of the store is retained through the stone floor, now retiled with natural slate, while the furnishings, brought from other parts of the house, bring a cosy homely warmth.
There are spectacular views of Croagh Patrick and Mweelrea, the highest mountain in Connaught, from the Lounge. The house originally had seven bedrooms and a large sittingroom on the upper floor. The latter has been converted into two substantial bedrooms, so while modernisation of all the rooms involved the loss of some space, the new arrangement - with en suite and central heating - has resulted in exactly seven comfortable bedrooms with spacious en suite, four of which are available for guests.
Many of the rooms retain the original pitch pine flooring, creating a warm and tranquil atmosphere. All the rooms afford long vistas of mountains - including the Twelve Bens and Tully Mountain - and the Atlantic Ocean.
